She shows how brooches can add style and flair to even the most conservative of outfits. Her simple solid colored shift dress becomes a statement piece with a large enamel flower brooch at the shoulder. A brooch transforms stuffy cardigan or blazer into a playful and retro, yet refined outfit.

Advanced Style
One of my favorite things is the blog Advanced Style.
My favorite thing about the site are the video interviews of stylish older women discussing fashion and personal style.
Here is one if the best (and quirkiest) ones, with the incredible Ilona Royce.

Best Brooches: Little Edie

Brooches are one item of jewelry that hasn't quite made it into the 21st century. Personally, I think they are a versatile and chic addition to any jewelry collection. I think the fact that they are not overly popular now makes wearing one even more fun. They are so decidedly vintage looking that wearing one is always and expression of personal style. With some creativity you will find that there are endless ways to wear a brooch.
That's why I am staring a new segment called Best Brooches. I hope it will inspire you to try wearing a brooch.
For the first edition I am happy to feature cult fashion icon and brooch revolutionary Little Edie Beale. If you don't know who she is, watch Grey Gardens (and preferably not the Drew Barrymore version.)
